VC-Funded Company

Sundrop Fuels, Inc. is a solar gasification-based renewable energy company with corporate headquarters in Louisville, Colorado. Our advanced high-temperature solar gasification process turns any kind of plant material into ultra-clean, affordable liquid transportation fuel for immediate use in today’s automobiles, diesel engines and aircraft.

Unlike other methods that burn considerable amounts of feedstock to generate the immense heat needed for gasification, we have the first process that converts all of the biomass into actual fuel. This efficiency positions us to compete directly with petroleum products by producing ultra-clean renewable advanced biofuels for an estimated unsubsidized cost of less than $2 per gallon.

As importantly, our product lifecycle results in significant reductions in greenhouse gas as compared to today's petroleum based fuels.

For these and many other reasons, our process represents the best possible use of the world’s environmental, economic and energy resources.

Core elements of our unique technology were developed by and are licensed through the University of Colorado Boulder and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Sundrop Fuels’ predecessor company, Solarec, began developing concentrated solar technology a decade ago with scientists from Los Alamos National Laboratory. In 2008, Sundrop Fuels also acquired Copernican Energy, a University of Colorado technology transfer company involved in solar-thermal biomass-to-gas conversion systems.

We are backed by two of the world’s premier venture groups, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Oak Investment Partners. The company’s management team is led by recognized, highly accomplished industry veterans from the energy, chemical, solar and technology fields.

Sundrop Fuels is a Kleiner-Perkins portfolio company.
