Second Rotation (gazelle.com)
Second Rotation, the company behind gazelle.com, is committed to providing an easy, fast and safe way for consumers to get cash for selling back their used consumer electronics and/or recycle them in an environmentally-friendly way.
We’ve all been there. New shiny cell phone in one hand, used one in the other. At this moment, what do you do? Put it in the back of a desk drawer? Stuff it in a closet? Throw it away?
In 2006, two people on different sides of the country discovered themselves in the same situation. This was the spark behind the idea to build a simple and rewarding way for you to trade in or recycle unwanted electronics.
The idea started with two founders, Rousseau Aurelien and Israel Ganot. In Boston, Rousseau ran across a statistic stating that more than 40 million computers were thrown away each year. He realized many still held usable life and value, and began thinking about building a business around reuse of electronics.
Meanwhile, 3,000 miles away in San Francisco, Israel tried to recycle two used blackberries at a local retailer, and was shocked to find they were going to charge him to recycle. Blackberries still in hand, he got back into his car thinking, “Who is going to pay money to recycle?” Whether luck or fate, Israel moved to Boston shortly thereafter and met Rousseau. Gazelle was born and the rest is history.
Today, Gazelle has grown to be the nation’s largest electronics reCommerce company, saving more than 100,000 gadgets each year. But this isn’t just about preventing e-Waste. This is about changing the way we all think about buying, owning, selling, and recycling. We are working, together with you, to bring about smarter consumption.
What can we say? We think it’s good to gazelle, and hope you’ll think so too.
Gazelle is a Rockport Capital portfolio company.
