Western Wind Starts Construction of 120MW California Wind Farm

Wind energy producer Western Wind said it has raised $275 million to finance its Windstar project located in Tehachapi, California.

The company has chosen Gamesa Energy to provide 60 wind turbines, under a 10-year operation and maintenance contract. Gamesa Energy will also provide construction services, and will start delivering the Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania-made turbines in April 2011.

When completed, the Winstar project will provide 120 megawatt of clean, renewable energy to Southern California Edison under a 20-year contract.

TheGreenJobBank estimates that the project will generate about 100 construction jobs.
