Obama Speaks at Arlington-Based Opower; Hails Clean Energy Jobs

Arlington, Va. -- President Obama on Friday touted his administration's jobs and clean energy programs to employees at Arlington-based Opower, a start-up company developing energy efficiency software. "The work you do here is making homes more energy efficient, it's saving people money, it's generating jobs and it's putting America on the path to a clean energy future," said Obama. Opower was founded in 2007 by Daniel Yates, the founder of Edusoft, and Alex Laskey, who worked as a campaign manager and strategist for several campaigns. The company's software is used by dozens of utilities to allow neighbors to compare their gas and electric usage. "I understand last year you doubled your workforce…and you're hoping to hire another 100 workers this year," Obama said.
