City of Raleigh Provides Free Green Job Training to Construction Professionals

The City of Raleigh, Office of Sustainability has awarded CleanEdison a $45,000 contract to provide green job training to local construction professionals. The program will provide participants with hands-on energy audit training that will enable them to take part in the fast-growing green building industry.

The Office of Sustainability will launch the pilot Green Building Training program on June 7, 2010 with a Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst Certification course instructed by CleanEdison. Funded through one of the Energy Efficiency & Conservation Block Grants included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, eligible program participants will be able to partake in the BPI training and certification course for free.

"The construction industry was hit particularly hard by the downturn in the economy," said Lynn Graham, Office of Sustainability Program Manager. "By providing Raleigh's construction professionals with the training and skills they need to acquire and retain jobs in the flourishing green industry, we are rejuvenating our local economy and investing in Raleigh's sustainable employment."

Participants who complete the course will become BPI certified energy auditors qualified to perform assessments to determine how much energy a home is wasting without proper insulation or duct sealing. With the proper retrofits, BPI certified energy auditors can help homeowners save as much as 30-40% on their monthly utility bills.

Trainees will come away with enhanced building science knowledge and related practical skills that will enhance their resumes when applying for jobs with local employers who have pushed energy efficiency to the forefront of their business, such as Progress Energy. Not only driving success for Raleigh's economic landscaped, this program will add to the demand for home energy savings and contribute to the community's overall effort to become more energy efficient.

CleanEdison has quickly become a leading green job training firm, offering state-of-the-art classes in a variety of disciplines, from Energy Audit Training to LEED Exam Prep.
