The BS in Environmental Studies is an interdisciplinary degree that provides students with valuable exposure to the complex issues that define our society now and in the future. Environmental Studies majors will gain valuable exposure to a complex set of issues that will define our society now and in the future. Students will learn the skills necessary to analyze, understand and solve environmental issues.

The core faculty in the Environmental Studies program comes from a diverse set of scholarly and practical backgrounds and these backgrounds will comprise the main themes of the program. The three main conceptual themes of the degree program include: social equity and public health; urban land use, economic development and transportation planning; and public relations and communication.

Capitalizing on the urban setting of Philadelphia, the program focuses on environmental problems facing cities, including: urban greening and farming; transportation planning and policy; green building, economic and employment development; environmental justice; planning for healthy environments; and water system planning.
