Signet Solar Inc was incorporated in the US in 2006 with a mission to develop, manufacture and market large area thin film silicon PV modules with the lowest installed system cost per watt using proprietary technologies and standard equipment. The company's goal is to deliver a PV electricity generation solution that enables price parity (also referred to as "grid parity") with grid based electricity generated by non-renewable energy sources.
Silicon Thin-Film Technology
Led by a management team with extensive experience in the semiconductor industry, technology commercialization and global operations, Signet Solar is committed to accelerating the global adoption of solar energy by rapidly reducing the cost of solar modules. Signet has selected next generation large area thin film silicon technology as the platform technology. Manufacturing cost of photovoltaic (PV) modules is lowered by implementing proprietary enhancements onto proven silicon thin film technology utilizing very large area manufacturing and an industry standard equipment set.
“Signet” is a seal, especially one used officially to mark documents, or the impression made with a seal.
Large Area Modules
The Company has gained a first mover advantage in this field by establishing industry's first large area thin film silicon module manufacturing facility near Dresden, Germany. The industry's first ever Gen 8.5 (5.7 m2 ) silicon thin film solar PV module was produced in May, 2008 at this factory in a record setting ten months from the start of construction. Signet Solar ramped up production in Q3 2008 and customer shipments began in October, 2008. This model manufacturing line will be replicated globally to expand capacity. Signet plans to build 300 MW solar PV manufacturing facility in Belen, New Mexico, USA. Construction of the first phase is scheduled to start in Q4, 2009.
Commitment to R&D
Signet's Research and Development center in Germany is developing and implementing proprietary process enhancements related with innovative device architectures, new materials and manufacturing methods. These innovations, combined with high volume, large area manufacturing will deliver an industry leading module manufacturing cost structure.. Large form factory PV modules are also expected to reduce the balance of system cost (BOS) costs. Lower module manufacturing cost in combination with lower BOS costs will lead to industry leading LCOE (Levelized Cost Of Electricity), targeting grid parity by 2012.

Product design and process control enables world class quality and reliability. Our thin film silicon on glass modules are designed to be aesthetically appealing. Signet Solar's technology is targeted for applications in solar farms, commercial installations, building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) and remote habitation.
